black disabled writers circle
dreaming of a space for Black disabled, crip, sick, and chronically ill folks to gather and write together

I’m continuously designing (and holding) the spaces and worlds I long to breathe within. A Black Disabled Writers Circle is one of them.
To my fellow Black disabled, crip, sick, and chronically ill writers and storytellers, I’m asking:
What kind of spaces and structures of support does your bodymind need in order for you to write?
The first gatherings will be open to anyone curious about the possibilities of a writer’s circle that could collectively care for us and the literary expressions emerging from our Black bodies, minds, and spirits.
Come meet disabled kin and folk. Come share your experiences, needs, and longings to help shape the space.
This is a free offering and there are two gathering dates. Register for the day and time that works for you:
Thursday, September 24
6:00-7:30PM EST

Saturday, September 26
2:00-3:30PM EST

Restack and invite your kinfolk!
If this offering isn’t for you but you care about the literary expressions emerging from us Black disabled writers and have the resources to support my space holding, you can become a paid subscriber or make donations via Venmo, CashApp, and PayPal. Every scale of support is deeply appreciated.
feeling our futures,
Denise Shanté
call me Denise Shanté (she/her)
I’m currently experiencing myself as a multidimensional designer, creative co-conspirator, and intuitive writer. Through a creative social practice rooted in multimodality and sensorial knowledge, I’m guiding embodied experiments where (dis)abled storytellers and worldmakers can collectively dream, design, write, and feel the futures we long for and love. If you trace my creative lineages—past and present—you’ll also find memories of me (self)publishing experimental memoirs and collaborating with other designers and writers for over a decade to shape communities of care that will also care for us. My work explores themes of intimacy, honesty, bodies, interiority, inquiry, and everyday liberation. Every breath in my process is a spell to move with “nothing less than love” (thank you, June Jordan). With love, I honor my Black, queer disabled body from which crip creations flow and the spirit of my ancestors who make it possible to express my multitudes—audaciously and furiously.
